The Founder and Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Akwasi Addai, has described the meeting between President Akufo-Addo, the National House of Chiefs and MMDCEs as a waste of state resources.
According to him, the meeting was a shareholder meeting with the majority of chiefs and MMDCEs who met engaged and benefiting from galamsey.
He told Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm host Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline that President Akufo-Addo lacks the political will and commitment to fight galamsey because he is deeply involved.
He claimed that there is no one in the presidency who is not involved in galamsey.
“I cannot say all the chiefs are involved,” he said of the chiefs. The majority of them, however, are involved and benefit from galamsey.”
“It was a shareholders meeting.” It was a shareholders’ meeting, not a stakeholders’ meeting. Those who met have shares in and benefit from the proceeds of galamsey.”
