Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, says no one deserves to be blamed except President Akufo-Addo for the galamsey menace.
According to the lawmaker, if Ghanaians were honest, they would blame only President Akufo-Addo.
He stated that the issue of galamsey is bigger than the forestry commission because if people can bring excavators into the country, move them to sites, and use them for galamsey activities, we have a lot to be concerned about.
“Are the regional ministers absent?” Where are the regional police commanders? Where have the DCEs gone? So, how do these things occur?
Let’s not sugarcoat it. President Akufo-Addo, in my opinion, is to blame for the galamsey threat. He is the supreme commander. He is to blame for what is going on. Why do you keep people in positions if they are not doing their jobs? If you keep people in positions if they are assisting illegal miners in destroying our water bodies?”
According to Dr. Apaak, the President should accept responsibility as the appointing authority because he has refused to deal with his appointees who are involved in the threat.
Speaking on the subject, he stated that the President is responsible for his appointees under the constitution.
There are DCEs and other appointees involved in galamsey.
We are aware of the missing excavators. We’re all aware of the Tiger PI exposé on Charles Bissue. We’ve all heard the phrase “party his sins”, which was propagated by the NPP. So, even though all of these facts are in front of us, the president has taken no action.
As he had promised, he challenged the Special Prosecutor to investigate the alleged corruption-related activities in the illegal mining menace.
He went on to say that the galamsey issue is a threat to our existence and that we will be sorry if we do not act as a country.
He emphasized that some party members had previously stated that they (NPP) needed money, and thus the issue of galamsey should be addressed.
