Board Chairman of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Mt. Yaw Patrick Boamah, has assured the Ghanaian public that the safety of the water that runs through our pipes is one of the best in the world.
Despite the threat of galamsey, he assured customers that the GWCL is doing everything possible to ensure the safety of the water produced for consumption.
Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, who represents Okaikwei Central constituents, posited, “the GWCL is committed to producing water that meets global standards and even exceeds what is currently available.” We are committed to it and will continue to do so.
The water produced by the GWCL is among the best in the world. We will not cut corners because some people are destroying our water bodies. We will make the necessary investments to maintain the quality of water we provide to Ghanaians. We will not compromise on water safety.”
Meanwhile, he has bemoaned the rise in the cost of treating the produced water.
He revealed that the cost of water treatment has risen by more than 30%.
“The illegal mining activities pose serious challenges because the chemicals used to treat the water are expensive.” We spend a significant amount of money on water treatment. Our chemical purchases have increased because we want to ensure that the water is treated and that no infections occur. Chemical prices are rising, and we need more chemicals to treat the water due to heavy pollution and high turbidity levels.”
