On Thursday, October 13, 2022, Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum visited the workplace of the basket and cane weavers at Cantonment in Accra to interact with them.
The visit to their workplace was aimed at giving them first-hand information on the Ghana Skills Development (GSDF) fund, a challenge fund aimed at addressing the skills and Technological needs of the enterprises operating in both the formal and informal sectors of the economy.
Implemented by the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), an agency under the Ministry of Education, the GSDF will offer training to help create jobs and enhance the competitiveness of the skilled workforce.
The leadership of the basket and cane weavers expressed their profound gratitude to the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government for demonstrating a commitment to enhance their capacity as well as promote their trade.
They pledged to collaborate with the Education Ministry and the CTVET towards making the grant work to boost their operations.
The Minister stated that the government remains committed to investing in the Technical and Vocational and Education Training (TVET) sector to prepare graduates for the 21st-century workforce.
