President Akufo-Addo has responded to critics who have demanded the removal of Ken Ofori-Atta as the Finance Minister.
The President who appointed the Minister in his first term and has kept him in post despite several calls for his removal declared that he had no basis to sack him.
The president stated in an interview on Otec Fm as part of his four-day tour of the Ashanti Region that the Minister has been efficient and that he has no reason to fire him.
According to him, when the NPP took office, the economy was in bad shape, but his minister worked hard to get it back on track, making it one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
”I came to the office in 2017 under an IMF programme with some restrictions and stringent programme. This same man was able to manage the affairs of our economy in such a way that made it possible for Ghana to be one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, with an average growth rate of 7% a year. From the beginning of an IMF programme. An economy that allowed us to initiate the planting for food and jobs,” and other policies.
The President stated that if the Finance Minister had not performed well during his first term, when Ghana was the fastest-growing economy in the world, with an average growth rate of 7%, he would have reason to fire him.
