The Deputy Lands and Natural Resources and the Member of Parliament for the Tarkwa Nsuem constituency, George Mireku Duker, has sued the Dompim-Pepesa chief, Nana Nyowah Panyin IV, for defamation.
The lawmaker has sued the traditional ruler and some media firms after he was accused of engaging in galamsey.
The media firms sued by the MP are the Multimedia Group and the Class Media Group.
He is praying the court orders the persons he has sued to retract and apologise for their role in spreading the claims.
Furthermore, he seeks GH10 million in damages as well as aggravated damages resulting from the two media companies’ publication of the allegations.
The MP maintains that his reputation has been “violently damaged,” and that his chances of winning the next election have suffered.
