Prof. Frimpong-Manso, President of the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), has revealed that the men of God who were seen praying at the galamsey site, which has sparked mixed reactions, were on a fact-finding mission.
The man of God said contrary to assertions that they had gone to the sites to pray, he said they went to the galamsey sites to gather information and discover whether the extent of damage reported by the media was the truth.
He noted that they did not necessarily go there to pray. However, they could not have also left without praying.
Speaking on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5 Fm, the man of God, said it was unfortunate that a section of the Ghanaian public insulted and vilified them without any just course.
He indicated the country ”is now like the Titanic. We are sinking. We have complained, and it seems the problem is still there. We planned a press conference but decided to embark on the fact-finding. As Christians, we can not go anywhere without praying. That was why we prayed. The irresponsible journalism on our visitation was unfortunate, but we have not given those involved”.
He stated that we have not lost the battle against galamsey, but that the problem is serious and must be addressed immediately.
He urged Ghanaians to support the fight against galamsey since its negative impact on our livelihood is life-threatening.
Prof. Frimpong Manso believes that everyone is guilty and that politicizing the issue was not prudent because it is a national disaster that is slowly killing us.
”We went on a fact-finding mission and not a prayer mission. That is why I was angered by the insults thrown at us. They [attackers] were abusive. They were ridiculing us. They vilified us. As men of God, we are not children. We have reasoned. We are well educated. We are not ‘osofo moko’ to go and pray against galamsey without the application of pragmatic efforts in dealing with galamsey. It was reckless and irresponsible journalism.”
