Just as other parts of the country, some 895 candidates are writing this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) at three (3) centers in the Zabzugu district of the northern region.
The number is part of the 29,648 final year Junior High School pupils sitting for BECE this year in the northern region.
Customarily, the Chief Executive Officer for the Zabzugu district, Ahmed Abubakari Iddrisu also known as Adakwa visited the examination centers in jurisdiction to wish the candidates the best of luck.
However, the ever-astute DCE, entreated examination invigilators not to wear ‘tigermasks’ as they supervise the young candidates who are participating in their first ever external examination.
“I respectfully appeal to our invigilators to be moderate in your instructions to them, in order not to put fear in them.”
As much as possible the Hon. Ahmed Abubakari expressed his message of good luck to the students, as they begin a five-day nonstop external exam today. Saying, “The President of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo-Danquah Akufo-Addo says he’s with you and has created for you free access to Secondary Education. Take this opportunity to write well and pass well.”
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Zabzugu Constituency, Hon. Jabaah John Bennam through the DCE extended his best wishes to the candidates and provided for them 896 mathematical sets and pens to be used in the exams.
It is captivating to note that since Hon. Ahmed became the DCE for Zabzugu in 2017, the gap between females and their male counterparts is fast closing up and it is no surprise that this year, out of the 895 candidates, 351 are females as against 544 males as compared to that of 20/21 where the number female candidates was 316 against a 515 male candidates.
