The Member of Parliament for Builsa South, who also serves as a Ranking Member on the Education Committee, believes Prof. Opoku-Amakwah was fired due to a feud between him and the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.
President Akufo-Addo fired the Director General in a letter issued and signed by the Secretary to the President, Nana Asante Bediatuo.
According to the said letter, his skills are no longer required at the GES.
“The Ministry of Education has informed this Office that the exigencies that required your skills and expertise as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service do not exist any longer”, the letter said.
“The President thanks you for your service to the nation and wishes you the very best in your future endeavours”, the letter added.
In response to the dismissal, the lawmaker stated that, while the main reasons for the action were not stated, the reason was due to the former DG’s tension and a frosty relationship with the Education Minister.
”The real reasons for sending Prof back to the classroom are not in this letter. Truth is that the tension and frosty relationship between Hon. Adutum and Prof. Opoku-Amankwa led to this, nothing more nothing less.”
