Lawyer Obiri, a former Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), believes that no amount of twists and turns can change the fact that the country is in severe economic distress.
He noted that party and government communicators should be guided by these principles and be truthful to the public.
According to him, we cannot continue with our usual partisan politics while Ghanaians are clearly suffering.
He said that the depreciation of the cedi is a major threat to businesses, with several of them collapsing.
He stated on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Frontline that basic commodities such as milk, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other household commodities have become prohibitively expensive for Ghanaians.
He indicated that no rational and objective person would argue that the country is not in the grip of an economic crisis.
He stated, “I am sick and tired of what is happening in our country and in Africa.”
“We must transcend our partisanship and take a collective approach to address our problems. I’m sure some NPP members will despise me for telling the truth. But I’d rather tell the truth than pretend. If nothing is done, the dollar will be worth GHc20 by December. I’m hoping we don’t get there “.
Lawyer Obiri Boahen emphasized the importance of NPP communicators being honest with the people and not taking them for granted.
He emphasized the importance of political party communicators being truthful and not taking Ghanaians for granted.
He also admitted that not all communicators of a party are candid or truthful, but communicators must be responsible in their communication in general.
He asserted that any rational person would agree that the cedi is losing value against the dollar. Recognize that thongs are difficult. Recognize that your company is struggling. Recognize that we are not living in normal times. That is exactly what Ghanaians want to hear.”
