Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned as UK prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party.
She announced her resignation in a statement outside Downing Street.
According to her, she could not deliver the mandate on which she was elected as Tory leader and had notified the King that she was resigning.
The Conservative leadership election is expected to be completed within the next week.
In her announcement, she said, “I will remain as prime minister until a successor has been chosen.”
The former Prime Minister had been in office for 45 days. He remains the shortest-serving PM in UK history.
