Ghanaian economist Prince Obiri Yeboah has praised the majority in Parliament for their bravery in calling for the resignation of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
He explained that the Majority’s position demonstrated that Ghana’s democracy could improve beyond what we see today.
He stated that if Ghanaian politicians have the courage to question their government, it will improve our governance process.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the economist asserted that Ghana is currently in distress and for the Majority to take this position, Ghanaians must be proud of them.
He further posited that the dismissal of Ofori-Atta is long overdue since the signs were clear, but the president failed to act.
He explained that the Minister’s competence had been called into question, and the crisis had revealed his lack of skills and technical knowledge in dealing with the situation.
He also indicated that Ken Ofori-Atta, as Minister, does not have confidence in the IMF. So, what changed that he is now leading the delegation negotiating with the IMF? He is no longer dit as Minister, and yet, the President does care about the crisis we faced and wants to keep him. It is a good call by the Majority. It will restore confidence”.
He added that Ghanaians who criticized the president and suggested his removal, which he rejected but has been reiterated by the majority, are exceptional, and failure to sack him would result in a serious political crisis for the NPP.
