The True Drivers Union has expressed disappointment in President Akufo-Addo.
The Union says the President is not truthful and can not be trusted.
Convener, Yaw Barimah averred that the president deceived them by increasing transport fares by 19% with a promise to reduce petroleum products.
He disclosed on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that President Akufo-Addo met with the driver unions and pleaded with them to increase transport fares by 15%.
He said the driver unions disagreed, and the President further pleaded for an increment by 16.5%, but they went back and forth until they agreed on 19%.
This agreement, he alleged, was on the premix that the government would scrap some taxes on petroleum products.
However, while we were negotiating with the President, the price of petroleum products was raised at the pumps, much to our surprise.
According to Yaw Barmah, “the drivers were not the ones who proposed the percentage.” It was the president who urged us to be reasonable in our raise. He promised to eliminate some taxes on petroleum products. “He broke his promise, and we are disappointed.”
