The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has admitted that there has been an additional 4% increment in transport fares.
The Union said it was however not a directive from them but from the drivers themselves.
Public Relations Officer Abass Moro Ibrahim explained that the recent hikes in fuel prices have contributed to the latest development.
”This is unprecedented. It has never happened. But we will engage with our members and look at the way forward.”
Mr. Ibrahim went on to say that the industry now has several driver unions, making it difficult to regulate fares at a standard rate.
He told Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm that the cost of fuel was rising at an alarming rate even before they met with authorities to discuss the percentage.
