Contrary to government claims that it has paid depositors’ deposits following the banking sector clean-up, Divine Nkrumah has revealed that several depositors have yet to be paid.
‘When the president says he has protected depositors’ deposits, Divine Nkrumah says he doesn’t know if he has been lied to or if he is the one telling lies.
”I don’t know who is lying to whom or why he [Presidnet] is lying to Ghanaians. It is two things. It is either the Finance Minister is lying to the President, or he is lying to Ghanaians when he knows the truth.”
He claimed that there are platforms with over 20,000 users who have yet to receive their deposits.
Using himself as an example, he stated that when the investment banks were closed, he received a partial payment of Ghc50,000, and the rest has gone down the drain. He has been told that the remaining amount will be discussed in five years.
He revealed that a friend who had an investment of Ghc500,000 at GN and wanted to retrieve it to fund his medical bills because he had kidney failure could not access his funds despite the numerous appeals.
“They did not pay everyone.” They only paid a few people. Nobody has been paid by the investment banks. So I cringe when I hear the president make these remarks. Either he is lying or someone else is lying to him.”
He painfully recounted how he lost his job and investments due to the banking sector clean-up.
For him, the economic hardship and pain started in 2019 and what Ghanaians are feeling today started hitting him many years ago.
