The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has announced plans to start selling food on its premises to serve Accra residents.
According to the Minister, the food will be delivered directly from the farm gate to reduce price inflation.
During a meeting with farmers in Sefwi Wiaso, Western North Region, sector Minister Dr. Owusu Akoto Afriyie stated that “the ministry will take its own initiative.”
“We are going to link up with the farm gate so that we make all the arrangements to ensure that we put up kiosks on our compounds at the ministry, specifically for food from here [Sefwi Wiaso] and we are going to give it a lot of publicity,” the minister said.
Dr. Afriyie Akoto believed that inflation was caused by overpricing by traders rather than food shortages.
