A two-year-old boy is currently fighting for his life after suffering severe scald injuries and being allegedly neglected by health practitioners at Efutu in the Cape Coast North Constituency of the Central Region.
According to the victim’s family, nurses at Efutu didn’t even look at the severity of the injury, but as soon as they heard the child had been scalded by hot soup, they immediately referred them to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital (Interberton) without even providing first aid medication.
The child’s sister told Rainbow Radio’s reporter Eric Annan that when they arrived at Efutu, the nurses told them they didn’t have the equipment to treat scald, so they didn’t give them any first aid medication and instead told them to go to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.
“We almost lost him because he was unconscious from pain and there was no ambulance to rush him to the hospital, but by the grace of God, he is alive and receiving treatment,” she said.
The boy is currently responding to treatment at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where he was admitted.
