The Young Africans for Opportunities (YAFO) has stated that some insurance companies hide behind documentation to deny drivers of their insurance claims.
Nathaniel Dwamena, Co-Founder and Programmes Manager, said some drivers are also ignorant of the processes to access 5their insurance claims, which in the end, leads to preventable delays.
He was responding to recent research findings released by the organization dubbed ‘Driver Mo’ – exploratory research on vehicle insurance in Ghana.
The presentation highlighted numerous critical and undeniable aspects affecting the efficacy of vehicle insurance in Ghana.
Statistics range from the percentage of accidents that are not reported to insurance companies to the number of drivers who purchase insurance to avoid police harassment.
He said although drivers would wish for their insurance claims to be paid on time, that is not the case due to the regime practised in Ghana.
He also stated that there is a knowledge gap in the claim process, which he has urged insurance companies to address.
He explained to host Kwabena Agyapong that vehicle insurance is typically purchased not for the benefits it provides, but because vehicles must be insured. and to keep drivers safe from police harassment.
