According to private legal practitioner lawyer Kofi Bekai, the law does not respect persons and you must submit to the law regardless of who you are.
The lawyer responded to the Supreme Court’s reported order for investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas to testify in open court, saying the journalist is not superior to anyone else.
Lawyer Bekai said on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm’s Nyankonton Mu Nsem that no matter who you are, you can be dragged to court.
He stated that the court has no regard for individuals, whether they are a chief, a president, or a minister.
He stated that how Anas dresses and covers his face is not part of our culture.
He said that the Supreme Court has the legal authority to change a man into a woman.
He claimed that you could not drag someone to court and that you could not appear while wearing a face mask.
“Every party who sues in court, whether criminal or civil, must appear in court and show their faces. So, if the Supreme Court orders him to appear in court or testify without his mask, that is what the law says. Nothing is wrong with that.
That is the rule of law. You must show your face in court if you are present. If the highest court of the land has ordered you to show your face in court, you must do so.”
He concluded that the argument that some persons could harm us neither here nor there.
He said if “people want to harm him, try face mark will not prevent that. Some people can even remove his mask when they see him in public. There is civility in Ghana and nobody would want to harm him. If he has been ordered to remove his face and come naked in the face, he should do it”.
