The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has ordered the formation of an ad hoc committee to investigate the allegations in the Minority Caucus’ motion of censure against the embattled Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta.
According to the Speaker, the committee will allow the Finance Minister to respond to conflicts of interest raised by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu.
Dominic Ayine, NDC Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga East, and KT Hammond, NPP Member of Parliament for Adansi-Asokwa, will co-chair the committee, which must report to the House within seven (7) days.
The speaker ruled on the matter after Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu moved on the House Floor on Thursday, November 10, 2022, for a vote of censure against Mr Ofori-Atta.
In his ruling on this matter, Speaker Bagbin said “The evidence will be placed before the committee. The Minister will have the opportunity to defend himself.
“A report will be presented to the House, and we will debate that report.”
The committee also includes Ezanator Rawlings, MP for Klolley Klotey, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu, and Bernard Ahianor, MP for Akatsi South, all of whom are members of the Minority Caucus.
Patrick Boamah, MP for Okaikwei Central, Andrew Agyapa Mercer, MP for Sekondi, and Kwame Ayimadu, MP for Asante Akim Central round out the list.
