The Eastern Regional branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) says it has recovered an amount of GH¢2,457,747.25 stolen power by some customers in the region.
According to the branch, the illegal connection was discovered between January and October this year.
It explained that the illegal connections were discovered by the ECG Revenue Protection Unit during a routine exercise.
Per details available, 36 of the meters discovered had been bypassed, 24 had been tampered with, resulting in low unit readings.
Aside from that 19 meters had been connected without authorization, and three (3) people had connected power directly to their premises.
Other customers who had problems with their meters had their issues resolved so that the company could continue to operate.
In Koforidua, the General Manager of ECG’s Eastern Region, Ing. Mrs. Sariel Adobea Etwire, confirmed this.
