The family of an 11-year-old girl who was sodomized by her biological father has sought public assistance.
The girl [namewitheld] was in the company of her aunt and assistant headmistress to narrate her ordeal on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
The Accra Circuit Court sentenced a 51-year-old electrician to 21 years in prison for having sex with his 11-year-old biological daughter in Gbawe, Accra.
The court sentenced James Kotaah to 21 years in prison for defilement and 21 years in prison for incest, both to run concurrently.
Kotaah, who did not have legal representation, admitted before Mrs. Christina Cann’s court that he had sex with the victim and pleaded guilty.
According to the convict, he had sex with the girl twice, but she testified in court that the father had sex with her eleven times, sometimes through her anus.
The court ordered the investigator to take the victim to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit, at the Police headquarters, for counselling.
According to the victim’s narration, her mother died, and she stayed with her father, who sexually abused her.
In explaining what prompted her to reveal her ordeal, the victim stated that the school organized a program and encouraged students to report cases of abuse.
The victim, who had confided in other friends, reported the incident, which led to her father’s arrest.
According to her, she had experienced some emotional trauma, particularly when people pointed at her and inquired about her ordeal.
The minor is currently undergoing treatment and psychological support.
The family is seeking financial support to care for the victim.
