According to a statement issued by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, the deactivation of unregistered sim cards has begun, as directed by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD).
The statement revealed all telecom companies operating in Ghana, AirtelTigo, MTN, and Vodafone, had reminded the public of the official notice from the sector Ministry dated November 11, 2022, announcing measures to be implemented by operators.
The statement said all telcos have begun blocking data services for all subscribers who have only completed stage 1 (linkage to Ghana Card) but not stage 2 (biometric capture) of the SIM registration process, as directed by the Ministry, since November 20, 2022.
The Chamber advised subscribers who have obtained Ghana cards but have yet to complete stage 2 (biometric capture) to do so by November 30, 2022.
