Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, has revealed that the proposed August 4, 2023, date for the opening ceremony of the All African Games in Ghana is impossible.
He told Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi unequivocally in an interview with Rainbow Sports that Ghana is unprepared for the games.
According to him, based on his experience and observations of other countries that have hosted the games, Ghana is nowhere near these countries.
The August ceremony is impossible because I have attended and witnessed games, and from where I sit, I don’t think we are ready. From experience and what I have witnessed in the organization of the games, Ghana is not prepared.
I have also heard that we would seek postponement to 2024 became it would come with difficulties since 2024 is an Olympic year.”
He stated that there are uncertainties surrounding the issue and that if we continue to be careless, we will be unable to organize the ceremony.
He indicated that the World Cup had also divided our attention and that he hoped that after the World Cup, we would be able to hit the ball tuning.
When asked if Ghana should throw in the towel and let another country host the games, he said it was too early and that things could change, but that if we don’t plan ahead of time, we won’t be able to organize them.
He said that we must do more because we are falling behind and that if we do not, we will face difficulties.
