The Nii Odoi Kwao Family is demanding the immediate release of their family head Nii Odoi Kwao II, and an unqualified apology from the Greater Accra Regional Minister Henry Quartey, who they accused of masterminding the arrest.
Robert Koomson Jnr stated at a press conference held at the family home on Sunday, December 11, 2022, that the family is outraged and believes the father’s rights were violated for a reason.
He also denied that the elderly man attempted to slap the Minister or threatened his life.
He maintained that heavily armed security personnel stormed the family house and whisked him away.
He told the press that their father was manhandled, rushed to the court, and held in custody for a week without proper recourse to the law.
According to him, ”the father was not in the very best of health” but was denied bail and was not affordable the right conditions to be comfortable nor plead his case.
He alleged that certain parties and rogue elements, as well as some members of the Odoitso Odoi Kwao family, were communicating with the criminal investigator handling the case, reviewing confidential case records, and making some adjustments.
He further alleged that the Odoitso Kwao family, which had never been to the family house, stormed the house after the family head had been arrested.
He alleged that there is an attempt by some appointees of government abusing their power for their selfish interests.
He said the family would pursue this issue to the letter and ensure that the regional minister is dealt with per the law for ”using security operatives and the police” to intimidate people.
He stressed that ”we will not relent, we will not eat, we will not even drink water, we will not sleep until we see our family head in our family house. He was taken here, and his property was destroyed and disgraced here. Therefore, we feel we have been violated”.
