The Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has launched the 2022 Road Safety Christmas campaign with a call on drivers to obey road traffic regulations.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, the Transport Minister urged road users to change their bad habits and attitudes in order to avoid accidents during the Christmas season.
He also charged law enforcement with carrying out their duties without fear or favour.
He went on to say that everyone should pitch in to keep this holiday season accident-free.
Mr. Asiamah urged transportation companies to instruct their drivers to be cautious during and after the Christmas season.
”I appeal to transport operators, drivers, passengers, and everyone to contribute their quota in ensuring an accident-free Christmas. Drivers should avoid speeding, and overtaking, so they will stay alive. Passengers should also avoid instructing drivers to drive at a top speed. We have a collective responsibility to prevent road accidents.”
Acting Director General of Road Safety Authority, Ing. David Osafo Adonteng, also added that the Authority is going to various lorry stations to preach for the ‘Arrive Alive’ campaign to reduce road accidents this festive season.
He tasked drivers to be responsible and avoid drunk driving so they would protect themselves and their passengers.
”Drivers must maintain discipline. If they fail to respect road traffic regulations, we will use the law to deal with them,” he warned.
