Security analyst Adib Saani has opined that President Akufo-Addo’s claim that the government of neighbouring Burkina Faso has given Russian mercenaries a mine as payment to help fight an insurgency in their country was reckless.
Adib Saani noted that the reckless comments by the President exposed Ghana more to terrorist attacks.
According to him, since independence, Ghana has remained neutral on the issues of conflicts and geo-politics.
”But today, the President is trying to distort the gains we have made because of our neutrality. He is now making it look like we [Ghana] are puns to the US. I want you to quote me anywhere; what the President said has exposed us more to the threat of terrorism.”
He explained that we have been exposed more because we rely on the Burkinabes to protect us more than the Americans.
He said Burkina Faso is a sovereign state and cannot what they deem git to protect itself just as Ghana. So why do you complain to America? Why do you complain to the secretary of state and not even Joe Biden in that fashion? It has implications because already, we have a good relationship with the Burkinabes. They will no longer trust us since we have proven to be puns of America.”
He emphasised that the remarks would cause serious diplomatic problems between Ghana and Burkina Faso, as well as Russia.
“I’m not sure who advised the President to say such things. To be honest, it’s unfortunate and exposes us even more,” he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Gm.
