The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has warned Ghana could record a new variant of the Covid-19 virus just as we recorded the Omnicron variant in 2020 during the festive season.
Director General of the Service Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye, who disclosed this asked Ghanaians not to let their guard down to ensure that the spread of the virus is contained.
Addressing a press conference over the weekend, he said there is the potential of recording a new variant we had last Christmas.
He, however, assured the public that the GHS was prepared for such an incident.
He said ”we also have to look at that as a risk factor and be alert”.
He noted that the country would have to sustain the gains made so far so that we don’t go back to where we were several months ago.
He also mentioned that the mass vaccination exercise launched last week ahead of the festive season had recorded a little over 1 million individuals receiving the jab.
He encouraged opinion leaders and other influential persons to encourage people to take the vaccination.
