The National Road Safety Authority has revealed that its yet-to-be-released figures for 2022, particularly during the holiday season, show that the number of accidents and casualties recorded exceeded the previous year.
The figures are alarming, according to Public Relations Officer Madam Pearl Dusu, who spoke on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
She explained that the figures are not good based on what they have so far.
The figures also show that motor riders suffered more casualties, according to the PRO.
Motorcyclists, she claims, are the most vulnerable to road accidents due to a lack of adherence to traffic laws.
She also stated that the Authority will continue its campaign to encourage riders to follow traffic laws.
She said that the majority of them jump at the first light and do not wear safety equipment, which contributes to the figures.
Madam Pearl Dusu stated that the road safety campaign would be stepped up this year to reduce the figures.
She added that the figures would be made public on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, through the use of work.
She emphasised the importance of maintaining road discipline and avoiding overspeeding, overtaking, and other negative attitudes that contribute to traffic accidents.
“The figures for 2022 have risen. Aside from the recorded deaths, the figures skyrocketed. We are putting the figures together and hope to have them ready by tomorrow. However, I can confirm that the figures increased more than the previous year.
Motor riders also contributed to the high figures. They are the most at risk. They are vulnerable because they usually do not violate traffic laws. They never wear safety equipment and always jump in the proper light. We will step up our campaign to reduce the alarming rate recorded last year.”
