Former Director of Communications at the presidency under the late Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, Koku Anyidoho, says contrary to claims that he wielded so much power in the government of his political godfather, that is not the case.
Mr. Anyidoho, who is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Atta Mills Institute (AMI), noted that he did his job so flawlessly and efficiently that people thought he was so much powerful.
He was expressing his opinion and experience at the presidency and managing the president following the recent Meek Mill saga.
He asserted that ”first of all, I don’t think it should have happened. It shouldn’t have happened. But then again, when you are appointed to do a job, and you are not diligent, you would goof”.
He said ”at the presidency, people must be alert 24 hours. It is not President Akufo-Addo who approved the video shoot. As for the president, he is allowed to receive visitors, and you cannot determine for him who should come and who should not come, and when he is done with you, he [President] moves on to a different assignment. But other people around the presidency must clear whatever must be cleared. So who approved the video shoot?
That was why I gave an example of how I worked at the presidency and was very alert. That was why people felt Koku Anyidoho was too powerful
.Speaking to Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, he said, ”I wasn’t powerful, but I had an authority and a mandate, and I executed the mandate. I wasn’t powerful, but I was given certain authority and mandate by the President of the Republic. I had to respect and protect that mandate”.
He told the host about some incidents that occurred while he was working at the presidency and Stan Dogbey was acting as a presidential staffer without an official appointment.
He claimed he had to warn him at one point to stop posing as a presidential staffer or face the consequences.
He also mentioned another incident in which the then-deputy chief of staff, Valerie-Sawyer, directed Anyidoho to write a letter to FIFA on behalf of the president in order for Ghana to host a world cup.
He claimed that the late President was enraged because he was unaware of the situation.
