The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori Atta has opined that the 30% increment in the base pay for public workers will have a strain on the budget.
He said the increment would massive toll on the government’s budget but quickly added it will ensure peace.
He has therefore admonished workers to increase their productivity.
Organised labour and the government reached an agreement on Thursday, January 12, 2023 to
to increase the base pay by 30%.
The agreement was reached after ten negotiations with organized labour had failed.
The group earlier demanded a 60% increment to compensate for what they described as the harsh economic conditions.
At the negotiations the Minister said “This is going to take a toll on the budget, but I am confident that with enhanced productivity and the commitment that we have given to each other, it will ensure that there is peace in this country as we look at pension and labour issues.”
