The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, has bemoaned the lack of support for the so-called least financed sports.
He said the young men and women who represent Ghana in other sporting disciplines aside from football are not appreciated and treated with respect.
He noted that although these young men and women win medals for the country under terrible conditions, the state does not recognize them.
”These young people are not asking for an appearance fee or participation fee. These young boys and girls who participate in other sports, just want to feel loved. They want to see that you appreciate them.”
He said the lack of appreciation is affecting these young professionals.
Ben Nunoo Mensah added that these young sportsmen and women go through hard times before moving to the top.
”They go through hard times before moving to the top. Sometimes what to eat is difficult for them,” he said.
He made the remarks in an interview with Kwabena Agyapong on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
He said we take these young sportsmen and women for granted and give all the attention to football.
