A Ranking Member of the Education Committee of Parliament Dr. Clement Apaak has disclosed that students on Ghana Government Scholarships under the “Ghana Scholarship Secretariat” are stranded in the United Kingdom (UK).
The lawmaker who represents the constituents of Builsa South further indicated some of the students have been dismissed from their respective schools.
The MP also claimed that others are been chased by their schools and landlords for failing to pay their fees and rent.
“Some have been dismissed from their schools whilst others are being chased by their schools and Landlords to pay their rents.”
In a series of tweets, the MP added that the affected some of the students have not received their 8 months stipend.
This he lamented is making it difficult for them to survive.
” Some have not received over 8 months’ stipend which makes the situation very critical. Others have had to overstay because they can’t get money to go back to their country. Some have been sued by their landlords of refusal to pay rents.”
He has therefore asked the government to with immediate effect address the issues raised to rescue the stranded students.
“The Government of Ghana should act immediately to rescue these stranded citizens and to save the nation from disgrace.”
