President Akufo-Addo has admitted that the deal with the International Monetary Gund (IMF) will affect the completion of capital projects.
According to the President, part of the conditionality with the IMF may require disruption in some of the government’s infrastructure programmes.
The President disclosed this at a meeting with the Western Regional House of Chiefs at the Jubilee House on Monday, Akufo-Addo.
He said the IMF balance of payment support would go a long way to help the country.
“There will be some temporary delays while we are making the agreements with the IMF, and that is what we are experiencing now but at the end of the day we will get an arrangement that allows us to continue the projects.”
Akufo-Addo acknowledged that some projects are experiencing funding delays, owing primarily to the current economic climate and Ghana’s negotiations with the IMF.
He stated that the country’s representatives at the negotiating table with the IMF team are ensuring that all capital projects initiated by the government over the last six years but not completed will be fully implemented.
“Please be patient with my administration and know that the restructuring of our debts, both domestic and international, is aimed at securing the economic future of the country. If we do not do it now, it will bring our nation enormous challenges in the not-so-distant future,” President Akufo-Addo said.
