Fgaba Executive Director of Peace Watch Ghana, Madam Nyinkopa Daniels, has called for the immediate dismissal of the Police Officer who allegedly left his rifle in a commercial vehicle after allegedly extorting Ghc100 from the driver.
The Ghana Police Service has interdicted one of its officers after he left his rifle in a commercial vehicle.
In a press statement dated January 28, the Service indicated that the rifle was returned by the driver of the vehicle.
The driver “alleged that the Inspector had extorted money from him.”
Inspector Sulemana Adam, has been referred to the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to allow for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Reacting to the issue, Madam Daniels opined that the conduct of the officer was unprofessional and called for outright dismissal.
He wondered why an officer with a rifle would chase after Ghc100, which is below his monthly salary, and leave the gun behind.
To her, the move was dangerous, and another driver with bad intentions would have kept the gun for criminal activities.
“You are an officer with a monthly salary in excess of Ghc100, and yet you chase after money while leaving your hun in a car. He must be fired. They should not lower his rank as a form of punishment. He is deserving of dismissal. He is one of those who are tarnishing the Police Service.”
She also suggested the prosecution and incarceration of the officer so it would serve as a deterrent to others.
