About eight military men were invited to rescue some workers of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) after they were locked up at UDS City Campus near Tamale Technical University, for disconnecting the school’s electricity over dept.
The officials from the company had arrived at the school over the debt University owed them and also to change the university’s postpaid meter to a prepaid meter.
The move was to ensure that so the university gets power when they purchase credit.
The decision was made to end NEDCo’s losses.
The university administration, however, was said to have objected to the new arrangement.
The Northern Electricity Distribution Company then decided to discuss the decision to replace the post-paid meters and dispatched workers to carry out the disconnection.
According to NEDCo Loss Control Supervisor Samuel Kumi, UDS City Campus owes NEDCo as much as GH447,000, which is why they were sent to disconnect their power.
He claimed that the school’s security detail detained them and refused to let them leave.
He claimed that it took the intervention of military personnel to allow them to leave.
He mentioned that the military also struggled with security at the school before they were rescued.
