The arrest of some of Maxmart Shopping Centre’s branch managers by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) for alleged violations of the electronic VAT system has been described as Rambo-style.
The company’s management stated in a statement that it had received false accusations from the GRA that it was not complying with the system.
The company lamented that the situation had ruined its reputation in the eyes of its customers and the general public.
The company also stated that it was fully compliant with the implementation of the electronic VAT system.
It went on to say that Maxmart was one of the companies involved in the VAT system pilot project.
The company also expressed regret that the GRA, accompanied by the police and the media, came to some of its branches to arrest their managers.
As a result, it has asked the GRA to correct what they call the media’s misunderstanding of the situation.
