Traders who trade at Agbobloshie have lamented over the state of the market, calling on the responsible agencies to do the needful.
The traders who spoke to Rainbow Radio’s Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi said their several calls to these agencies had not yielded positive results.
Some of the traders told our reporter that the situation was affecting their businesses and was having a negative impact on their health.
According to one of the traders he spoke with, Typhoid fever is one of the major health concerns in the area.
Aside from the clogged gutters and heaps of refuse along the road, the market has a heap of garbage that is collected once a month, according to the traders.
They also revealed that some refuse collectors dump waste from other communities in Agbogloshie.
“The issue with the refuse really bothers us,” said another. We are being killed by typhoid fever. We’re dying slowly, and things could get worse. We pay tolls; all of that money should go towards resolving the situation.”
Sanitation was not the only issue that the traders had to deal with on a daily basis. They expressed dissatisfaction with the condition of the road that transports food to and from the market.
Another challenge they spoke about was the traffic situation.
They complained that the trucks that transport yam to the market had used the main road as their parking lot, creating unnecessary traffic in the area.
