The Ministry of Finance reports that its domestic debt exchange program has exceeded the 80% target.
In a statement thanking Ghanaians for their participation, the Ministry reiterated that the program was entirely voluntary until it ended on February 10, 2023.
Bondholders were told they could sign up for the program voluntarily or not at all.
The statement assured those who refused to participate that their coupon payments would be made in accordance with the government’s fiscal commitment when they matured.
It also stated that the exchange program was implemented to protect Ghana’s economy, which is currently in crisis.
