The government has announced that those who refused to participate in the domestic debt exchange programme will have their coupon rates and maturing principals paid.
In a statement issued through the Finance Ministry, the government stated that their coupon payments and maturing principals would be paid in accordance with the government’s fiscal commitment when they matured.
The exchange program was also implemented to protect Ghana’s economy, which is currently in crisis, according to the statement.
According to the Ministry’s statement, if the expected target had not been met, it would have caused serious disruption in the servicing of our national debt and exacerbated the current economic crisis.
It described the program’s participation as overwhelming.
