The Labour Party in Nigeria has called on the international community to intervene in what they have described as manipulation and rigging of the 2023 presidential election.
According to the party, the incumbent government colluded with the Independent Electoral Commission to rig the election in favour of Ahmed Tinubu.
Youth Organizer for the party, Kennedy Prince, made the call in an exclusive interview on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm.
”I want to use this opportunity to call on the international community to come to our rescue. Nigeria is under hostage. Nigeria is under oppression. We cannot continue to live in denial.”
The declared results, he argued, failed to meet the minimum criteria of a transparent, free and fair election.
He also accused the government of “attacks, violence, voter intimidation and suppression.
Tinubu was declared the winner of Nigeria’s presidential election on Wednesday, keeping the ruling party in power.
Tinubu garnered 37% of the vote in last weekend’s election.
According to official results, the main opposition candidate, Atiku Abubakar, received 29% of the vote, with third-place finisher Obi receiving 25%.
But the Labour party says the process was undemocratic.
‘This is no longer a democracy. People connived to do what they wanted to do, and this is not acceptable. We are going to approach the court despite the bias we feel about them. In the history of Nigeria, this has never happened. This is a fraud, this is a sham, and this is not an election as far as we are concerned. It is not acceptable.”
In his view, if the election is conducted 20 times, Obi will win because Nigerians want a president who is credible and a character they can trust.
