Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has ordered the reopening of the Kejetia Market, which had been closed indefinitely.
The directive will go into effect tomorrow, March 21, 2023.
Today, March 20, 2023, the Vice President was at the facility inspecting the extent of the damage caused by last Wednesday’s fire.
The fire prompted the facility’s management to decide to close it down.
After three days, a decision was made to close the unaffected areas for one week and the affected areas indefinitely.
However, the Vice President has ordered that the market be reopened, despite the fact that the fire investigation is still ongoing.
“If anything affects you, it affects me and everyone,” he said, sympathizing with the throngs of traders who had resisted the authorities’ decision to close the facility for another week.
“I was shown around, particularly where the incident occurred. There were 33 shops out of 8,000. “I enquired with the Fire Service and NADMO officials about the cause,” the Vice President said in Twi.
In the meantime, he has revealed that the cause of the fire has been determined.
He claimed that the fire was started by flames from a trader’s cooking shop.
