The 2023 edition of the Ghana Institute of Journalism’s annual political communication competition, a component of the University of Media, Arts, and Communication, is gaining traction as various political parties begin their campaign activities.
One such example is the Democratic Action Alliance, a simulated political party that recently announced its presidential candidate and manifesto.
Appearing on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, presidential candidate for the simulated party, Reginald Persoval Robertson outlined several policies the party intends to initiate if given the nod.
He told host Kwabena Agyapong that the party’s manifesto ‘Zaayoko Manifesto’ outlines’ four strategic policies that would be implemented to achieve a vision for a better Ghana.
According to him, the party will create a progressive tax system that reduces income inequality and funds social programs that benefit all citizens.
The party seeks to implement a minimum wage that provides a living wage for all workers and establish a public health care system accessible and affordable for all.
He mentioned an economic policy that will boost agricultural production and productivity, as well as a transformation of the economy through value addition to our raw materials in a rapid industrialisation process.
The party will launch the ‘Abaatan Anisaso Project’ and the ‘Abled Ability Policy’ in education.
The AAP’s goal is to provide a well-organized, centralised intervention that provides disadvantaged school children with nutritionally adequate, locally produced food, thereby reducing poverty through improved household incomes and effective economic development.
The Obiara ho hia project aims to ensure that all students are treated fairly and get equal opportunities. Within an inclusive educational environment, student diversity and uniqueness should be celebrated without discrimination.
Health
He explained that the party’s healthcare policy prioritizes universal coverage, preventive care, affordable prescription drugs, mental health services, and a strong healthcare workforce.
The party believes that implementing these policies would ensure that all citizens have access to high-quality healthcare services without facing financial barriers, he said.
He added that ”the Socialist Party is committed to creating a healthcare system that prioritizes the needs of citizens and promotes their overall health and wellbeing”.
As part of the School’s level 300 political communication course, all level 300 students must form simulated political parties.
The simulated political parties will engage in activities such as launching a party, electing executives, flagbearers, and running mates, and practically applying the political communication strategies taught in class.
The competition would climax with rallies from various parties and a debate by all flagbearers and running mates of the various parties.
