A group calling itself the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Serial Callers and Texters has demanded that the party immediately release the names of the Minority members of parliament who approved President Akufo- Addo’s six ministerial nominees last Friday.
According to the group, the MPs’ actions harmed the party’s reputation and undermined Ghanaians’ trust in the party.
Mr. Ibrahim Awal, Liaison Officer, warned the party that if the makes were not released by Thursday, March 30, 2023, they would face severe consequences.
He said that they are currently on strike and intend to remain so until their concerns are addressed.
“We condemn our members of parliament’s conduct during the approval of the president’s ministerial nominees. It is hereby communicated to all 136 NDC members of parliament that their actions have enraged the party’s rank and file, especially given that they voted overwhelmingly to approve the nominees with no recourse to Ghana’s suffering masses.
We express our total dissatisfaction with this behaviour, which we see as an affront to the common comradeship we share in the first place, as well as a betrayal of the trust of your loyal supporters and Ghanaians on whom you relied to get elected.”
So far, we have not decided whether or not to call a strike. If the party refuses to release the list of MPs who betrayed the party, we are prepared to take additional actions. The party issued a statement in which it asked MPs not to vote on the nominees. However, some of them were rude to us. It is an insult, and we were outraged by the level of disrespect shown to the NDC’s rank and file.
What is more offensive is that they did not respect the NDC’s leadership. Ghanaians also demanded that the ministers be removed, but they were only concerned with their own interests.”
