The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended some senior members of its Western Regional branch.
The Chairman and his wife of the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituency, as well as the Constituency Secretary and Organiser, have been suspended.
According to the party, the affected members were suspended for suspected indiscipline and disregard for party norms during former President John Mahama’s regional trip.
The party claimed in a statement that during the campaign trip, several party supporters wearing the constituency Chairman’s wife’s T-shirt hooted at the current Member of Parliament.
According to the party, the actions of these individuals were an embarrassment to former President Mahama, the dignitaries present, and the party as a whole.
According to the party, the Chairman’s wife, who is running for Parliament in the constituency, should have known better and ensured that individuals wearing her T-shirt behaved properly to avoid such situations.
The Chairman, Secretary, and Organiser have also been held accountable for failing to ensure party directive compliance and safeguard the party from public disgrace. The party has justified the punitive measure against them by citing Article 48 of its constitution.
“Additionally, you would recall that in the lead-up to his tour, a circular was issued from the regional Secretariat to you, cautioning that no aspirant should be allowed to use the platform so created to campaign for him or herself.”
The suspended party members have been recommended for further punishment to the region’s National Disciplinary Committee.
