Taxis, trotro and others to be digitized soon – Veep

As part of the government’s digitization initiative, Ghana’s Vice President, Alhaji Dr Mahamadu Bawumiah, has stated that the government is in the process of digitising taxi and trotro-driving operations in Ghana.

According to him, some taxi drivers visited his office last year and informed him that their businesses were collapsing as a result of Online Drivers’ operations in the country.

He stated that in order to alleviate this problem for drivers, the government has put measures in place to digitise taxi and trotro driving so that they can function similarly to online drivers.

He stated that in a few months, we will be able to place our taxis in Accra and begin operating on a tap-and-go system.

He announced this when he was invited as a Special Guest of Honour to the CHURCH OF PENTECOST’s annual General Council Meeting on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

This admirable achievement of the Church of Pentecost clearly demonstrates that, if we put our minds to it, Ghana, too, can become a developed nation, he said.

”Taxi drivers came to see me in my office, and one of the major problems they presented to me and my team was that our businesses were collapsing. I asked them what the problem was, and they said that people were not taking taxis as much as they used to because of Uber and the others. They asked how I could assist them in remaining in business.”

So I assigned my team to the task, and I am pleased to report that the work has been completed, and we will soon digitise taxi operations, he added.
