Presidential candidate hopeful in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Owusu Agriyie Akoto, has expressed strong optimism that farmers would propel him to victory in the upcoming primaries.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, the former minister in charge of agriculture claimed that the majority of NPP delegates who are farmers benefited from the policies and programmes he initiated as minister.
“Most of these farmers I met in Upper East, Upper West, Savannah regions are also delegates and party constituencies executives. The one million farmers are the ones who will bear witness to me. Just go to any farmer and ask about the impact I have had on their lives when I was Minister for Food and Agriculture. And they will confess to you, they will tell you. They will vote for me to win,” Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto said.
Meanwhile, he has reiterated that the job opportunities in the agriculture sector are enormous.
They include industrialisation, agro-processing, and advertising among others, insisting that when proper investment is made, it will change the fortunes of Ghana.
“My vision is really targeted at the youth. To have an impact on the youth is to create job opportunities for them. The youth really need jobs and the agriculture sector holds the key,” he said while addressing a town hall meeting organised by NPP, Canada branch, via Zoom.
“Everywhere I go, you see these young people thanking me for giving them opportunities to venture into agriculture. It is very gratifying to note that the opportunities are changing lives, especially, when you go to the northern parts of the country,” he noted.
