The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced new timelines for its presidential and orphan constituency primaries.
The timelines were revised on May 30 at an emergency meeting held ahead of the Assin North by-election, according to the party.
The party will vet prospective candidates for the presidential primaries from Monday, July 3 to Thursday, July 6, 2023.
The vetting committee would submit its report to the National Council on Monday, July 10, 2023, and the report would be published on Tuesday, July 11, 2023.
Petitions, if any, are expected to be submitted to the National Presidential Appeals Committee between 17 and July 18, 2023.
The publication of the list of qualified presidential aspirants is set for Thursday, July 20, 2023, after the National Presidential Appeals Committee sits from Monday, July 17 to Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
Balloting, publication of first notice of poll and national congress by the special electoral college, if any, would be held on Monday, July 24, Tuesday, July 25 and Saturday, August 26, 2023, respectively.
The general notice of poll will be published on Thursday, August 31, 2023, and the national congress will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
The party would then hold a run-off election on November 11, 2023, if necessary, to select its presidential candidate for the 204 presidential election.
Nominations for primaries in orphan parliamentary constituencies will open on July 11, 2023.
The deadline for submitting nomination forms is August 10, 2023.
Elections in the orphan constituencies would take place between September and December 2023.
