Traders at the Kasoa market have called on authorities to intervene in what they call market insecurity.
The traders claim that intruders have taken over their trading space and are engaging in illegal activities.
According to the traders, due to insufficient security personnel in the market, wee smokers, drug peddlers, and other suspected criminals have taken over the market, particularly at night.
These people, they claim, break into their stores and steal from them.
According to the market P.R.O, Okyeame Abbey, who spoke to the press on behalf of the market, wee smokers have taken over the marketplace at night, where they steal the goods belonging to the women in the market.
He believes that because the market is not fenced, wee smokers have been stealing late at night after the marketers have closed and left.
“The wee smokers are keeping us awake at night because they keep stealing our goods here because the market is open and there is no gate or security who watches here at night when we close.”
”The Municipal Chief Executive of Awutu Senya decided to set up a committee mandated to fight the Intruders, but it couldn’t work,” he said.
Also, the two market days are insufficient; why can we sell for only two days out of seven?
As a result, we are requesting that the authorities, the Odupong Assembly, the Chiefs, the MP, and the MCE extend the marketing days so that we can sell our goods.
In his conclusion, he stated that the market should be fenced and tight security provided for the safety of the goods kept in the market.
