Stop preventing Muslim students from worshipping in schools – Mission

June 23, 2023

Some Alhamadija Muslim Leaders in Ghana have expressed concern about how Muslim students are mistreated in some schools, particularly Senior High Schools, during their worship.

According to the leaders, they have received several complaints from female Muslim students in some senior high schools about being denied the right to worship on campus.

In an interview with the press, Mauvi Alhaj Muhammad Bin Salih, Ameer, a Missionary-in-Charge of Ahmadiyya Muslims in Ghana, stated that it was past time for Muslim youth, particularly females, to be allowed to express their faith.

According to him, the Ghanaian constitution guarantees freedom of worship, so denying Ghanaian students the right to worship is a violation of their human rights.

He expressed regret that the majority of reports they have received indicate that young Muslim females are not permitted to wear their Hijab.

”Ghana is a country where we have many religions. We have schools that are public schools and freedom of religion and worship. The constitution of Ghana guarantees freedom of worship. So any Ghanaian who finds himself or herself in any public school, wherever in Ghana, should be free to worship the way they want to worship. That is why I am calling on the Ministry of Education to ensure that they do the best they can so we don’t run into a negative situation.”

He was speaking at the graduation ceremony of twenty Imams in Mankessim, Mfantseman Municipality, Central Region.

He advised the graduates to avoid alcoholism and womanising because they would be preaching Allah’s goodwill to others.

According to him, it was not appropriate for them to engage in bad behaviour that violated Muslim norms.

Hon.Alhaji Kobina Ghansah, Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa Constituency and Special Guest of Honour, added that the Minority Caucus in Parliament would do everything possible to support the passage of the anti-LGBTQ Bill.

He pointed out that no Member of Parliament would accept LGBTQI, so Ghanaians should not be detained.
